Why specifically 12 pounds?

Are you looking for a beginners recipe? 12 pounds is a BIG batch if you've not made CP before...

Do you have a recipe you are already using that you like? If so, you can just adjust the total amount to make 12 pounds using some math and a lye calculator (like the soap calc one).

I have a new 12 pound soap mold and I don't have a recipe for 12 pounds.
I use a 5 pound soap mold right now.
I could double my recipe I use now, but that would be only 10 pounds.

Now pick the one you want to use and convert it to percentages. For instance the second recipe. The total ounces you have there are 53.1. Now take that number and divide it into the weight of each oil. Example: 26.5/53.1 = .49905. Round that to .50 which equals 50%. So you use 50% olive oil in your recipe. Now go do that with all your oils and see what the percentages are. Make sure the final numbers added together equals 100%.

If you convert the recipe into percentages, it will be easier to work with and "size-up".
Add up the total amount of oils and then figure out for each oil how much of the total that oil is.
For example, if you have total oils of 32 ounces and olive oil is 18 ounces, then you know that the olive oil percentage is about 56% of the recipe. (This is not from your recipe.....just something off the top of my head). You need to do this for each oil in the recipe.

It is easy to change the size of the recipe that you have. The Sage lye calculator lets you do that. Plug in your recipe, input the new size, click recalculate and voila! 5 lb. to 12 lb. recipe. Be aware that trace and gelling might be different for a bigger batch.

It is easy for ask for a recipe, but you will find if you experiment on your own and do a little research on this forum, on the net or through a lye calculator you will have a recipe that's truly yours and that YOUR skin will enjoy.

Round down on your lye and round up on your oils and butters.

Hmmmm......well 114 ounces is just over 7 pounds. If you want 12 pounds you will need 192 ounces....because 16 (ounces in a pound) times 12 (how many pounds we desire) equals 192. Now you need to determine how much of each oil you want. Keeping with the example I gave earlier 50% of your oils is olive oil. So you should have in soap calc that you want 50% olive oil....and then continue with the other oils. Once you calculate it the 50% olive oil should be equivalent to 96 ounces.

If you want to stick the 7 pound batch you do the same...just should end up being smaller amounts of oils.

Once you have all your percentages in the calculator next to the oils you want, then calculate the batch and then go make some soap!
