Teach Soap

Well, I ordered oxides because I'm basically out (again) of colorants. It'll be interesting. How much do you use? My recipes call for 122 ounces of oils, about 42 ounces of water and 16+ ounces of lye. I usually mix colors in little 4 cup pitchers. Do I mix the oxides in glycerin or oil or just the powder in the raw soap?

Would appreciate the info so I don't have to research it.

I find it easier to mix the oxides in a small amount of my oil and then add it to the rest of my oils (if I'm doing a single color batch). If I'm doing a swirl, I use about a tablespoon of oil per color and premix my oxides in small containers, then add my traced soap to each container and blend well. I usually start with 1/8-1/4 tsp of color and add more if it doesn't look right. Some oxides are really strong and you don't need much (i.e. black, burgundy)

Thanks Linda! I figured it was like that, but it never hurts to double check with someone who has been using them! Can't wait to try them.

You're welcome! I think you'll like them - they last a long time and don't bleed like some other colorants. They're also great for making other colors and mixing with ultramarines.
