Teach Soap

I'm contemplating doing a 100% coconut oil soap and want to bump up the SF. So far, I've only done 5%.

My concern is this: I live in what is one of the most well-known, wet, damp, wet, rainy, did I say damp..climates - the Pacific Northwest, well west of the Cascades. Its tough to find an outdoor surface NOT covered in moss or lichens in February. If not careful, WE are covered in moss by springtime.

Irena - I know you go up to 20% - but you live in a desert with 0% humidity! We learn to fear mold and rot around here...and anything "going bad" due to dampness. That and the sound of water that has leaked into the house and dampening drywall....

So, for us damp climate folks...what is a max SF or does it not matter?

I could be wrong, but I do not believe that there's any evidence that a high superfat has anything to do with dos. I live in Wisconsin & this summer it was really humid. Some of my recipes I superfat at 20-30% & have never had dos on any of them.

It's the humidity that's the problem no matter what your superfat is.

Humidity plays more of a role then how much your superfat. Do you have a dehumidifier? If not, could you get one for one closet, where you could keep your soaps in?
