Teach Soap

So I have read about labels and putting things in order of amount but why do some soaps list ingredients as 'saponified oils of..." and others just put the ingredients. Also, how would I label an infused oil? Would I just put the oil and the herbs separately in proper order?

Where are you in Durham? I'm in Pickering. We are open all this long weekend, making soap in the shop for the customers/tourists to watch. If your close by pop on down and I can show you our labeling system. We list the sodium hydroixe as an ingredient as opposed to saponified but you can do either one. I list mine as what I put into the soap and not as saponified oils of. I list it as -Scientific name (common name) oil- Olea europaea (olive) oil, for example. First name capitalized, second not. That is how proper scientific names are written The whole saponified oils of thing just takes up too much room! My font on my ingredients labels is already only 6pt. If I add more words I'll have to start giving folks magnifying glasses free with each soap LOL

The problem I have with using saponified coconut oil, is that *I feel* it is someone's way of evading whether or not sodium hydroxide was used in their product. As I understand it, labeling like that, the product should be tested to find out the percentages of each item in the final make up of the bar because glycerin will be part of the final bar, but its not used in a CP/HP formula, generally speaking, unless it is to blend in certain colorants. I'll just use the ingredients list as they are before the bar was together, then I know exactly what order I need to put them on the label and if anyone has any questions about the sodium hydroxide, I can educate them
