Okay, now my kids really think I'm nuts! I went out today and bought Pringle's potato chips just for the tube to have for a soap mold!! The kids loved it as I've never bought them these chips before! I read someone post that they used these tubes and their soap pictures looked great! So, I just finished my batch and it's all insulated and I'm wondering what is the best way to get it out without scarring the soap too much! Has anyone got some really great technique for unmolding soap from a Pringle's tube? Thanks sooooo much!!

Freeze it first. Use a razor or scalpel and carefully cut the tube from top to bottom then peel it off.

I have a question for those of you that use the Pringles cans. Isn't the inside of the can lined with aluminum which reacts with lye?

I always lined my Pringles cans, but others claim they use them just as is with no problem.

When I need a tube mold I save an orange juice can and use it. I cut the top metal edge off before I pour. That way after the cure the paper is there to just peel off.

The 'cans' here are plastic tubes, yours must be different

Thank you everyone for your comments! I had completely forgotten about lining it although I do remember thinking about it at one point.... I didn't get worried until after I poured it! I also didn't think about the foil that is in the tube itself! It seemed to have a waxy coating on the inside of the container. I'm very anxious to unmold tomorrow!! So hard to wait...... :/

I have found some other products that come in similar tube shaped packaging but do not have the foil lining. I found store brand raisins that came in a similar tube shape (not as tall as pringles)...I just ripped away the packaging and it came out great. Trying to think of other good things that I have tried....oh I use empty juice boxes for my overflow...then I can cut them into sample/guest bars!

Well, I can now let you all know that Pringle's tubes are lined with plastic already! The only aluminum that touched the soap was the little end piece at the bottom but that doesn't't appear to be a problem at this point! To unmold I did freeze the tubes for a couple hours and then just ripped the tube away! It came out just fine! The only problem I see is that there were air pockets along the sides because it was getting thick before I poured it. The cut pieces look great! I tried adding a picture but the file was too big so I'll have to wait so I can figure out how to do that!

I watched this video on Youtube the other day. This lovely soaper poured her men's shaving soap in a pringles can without lining it and I think it was aluminum. She just cut it with scissors and the finished product looked great! (though I must admit that I haven't done it myself for fear of a reaction)
