What happens if I do? It's gone through gel. What is the reason to leave it in the oven? I ask because my wife needs to bake something for work tomorrow. I told her she may have to hit chik fil a...

Thanks for any quick replies...
John

You can take the soap out as soon as it's in full gel. Most people turn the oven off, so they can leave it there overnight without attending to it.

I don't know if these are the official reasons but here are the reasons why I don't.

1) If the oven is still on and you open it, you let a lot of the heat out so the heating element kicks back on (and gets VERY hot) to bring the the oven back to your set temp.

2) If the oven is off and you open it, you let a a lot of heat out and if your soap hasn't gelled yet, then there's a chance it might not.

If I'm testing a recipe and don't know how long it takes to gel, then I sometimes peak. You basically just have to do what you need to do. But I don't think any gremlins will attack your soap if you open the oven. It's mostly a logistical thing to me.

OK, that's what I thought.

Here is what I'm doing. I had 3 molds in the oven. I took 1 out and put it on the cooling rack. I'll let you know how it works.

Here's something else. I think the bubbling on top is due to the high heat. (YA THINK???) What I'm going to do next is preheat the oven, put the soap in, turn the oven off and then turn it on every once in a while to keep the temp up but not hot. We'll see and I'll keep y'all posted.

Thanks

When you turn it back on the temperature inside will far exceed the desired temperature temporarily. This could really overheat or burn your soap! Generally what I've read is heat the oven to 170*F, turn it off, pop the soap in, leave it overnight. The oven will hold heat long enough to gel the soap without any chance to overheat or burn it.

I always take mine out as soon as it reaches full gel. I do sometimes get the little bubbles on top but I don't mind it...just a little texture!

I also have done a lot of CPOP batches and have simply removed the soap after it reaches full gel. When the oven is pre-heated to 200 degrees, that takes about 15 minutes. I've never had any of my batches burn, but a few have gotten the little bubbles on top. I've chalked it up to the fragrance oil I used though.

Thanks, mella! I think this is the same one I can get locally, but will need to doublecheck. :D
