Teach Soap

I guess since I am asking this ? I have alot to learn. But what does superfatting level mean and when it asks me when I put in a recipe what do I want it to be?

Start with a 7% superfat. This means that there with be 7% unsaponified oils/butters in your soap batch. Add all your oils and butters right up front. There is no need to add any oils or butters at trace, as lye is still active at this point and it will take whatever it wants.

If it's a small recipe, change the ounces into grams for better accuracy. Which soap calc are you using?

Most soapers will go with anywhere from 5-8% superfat (also called free oils or lye discount). After trial and error, I decided that 7% SF works best for me.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

7% for me too..my skin doesn't like 5%!
