Another mica question! I got the pearl collection from TKB, can anyone tell me how these hold up in CP? Guessing the pale purple goes a lovely gray. I now have 8 pounds of BB MP base so if they are iffy in CP I can use em in my MP! How does one go about making a test batch? Not sure how much pigment I would use per, say, ounce of soap batter.

Never used pearl collection would think it would work best in clear mp. I use BB mica in cp and it holds up great. How much I use depends on the shade I want, usually it darkens when cured so keep that in mind . I never had one fade.

Heather, if you did use these they would make cute guest soaps. I am just not sure how to measure out the scent or color for each little cube. Lets see what the professionals have to say.

I got some silicone molds at Target in the bargain section (6 rounds each, they make 3 ounce bars). The Wilton mini brownie tray is a little too small for testing as you want to get a mini frother or something similar into the cavity to mix the mica in thoroughly. That cube tray from BB would work well for your purposes also.

I just tested 24 micas over the last few days. Here's an example. The heart is an uncolored control bar. You can see that Midori blue totally disappeared.

Wow, that's really interesting! It's amazing what certain coloring agents do with different processes and the passing of time.

judy! Question for you! (or anyone else reading this who might know!)

I have that same heart mold (I assume so at least from the way the heart is shaped, paid about $3 bucks for it at Wal-Mart around Valentine's Day, have two), it is a red silicone.

I made some CP salt bars in it last night, first time to use them for CP. They were white, but unmolded with an orange-ish tint on the top and sides surfaces. Have you had this happen to you before with this mold? I was pretty upset, and not sure if it is just that the mold is unsuited for CP, or perhaps it was the salt. I've used the mold(s) for MP in the past without incident, don't remember using any strong colorant in that shade in them before, and always wash them out thoroughly.

I suppose I could just test them out again without a salt batch....

It could be the salt leaching out the color. I would try a batch without the salt.

Yes, I am hoping that was the issue. I mean, not really hoping exactly because it really made salt bars so much easier (and cuter) than timing the unmolding/cutting with a loaf but.... you know what I mean. :)
