Teach Soap

I bought a handled stainless steel water pitcher off Amazon.com to mix the lye in. It's the same pitcher they sell on Bramble Berry.

Howdy folks,
Just a quick question regarding the dishwasher... When I finish up making a batch, I rinse everything out with tap water (including the NaOH jug) and bung it in the dishwasher - with nothing else in it. I figure that the caustic dishwasher tablets will be just as corrosive etc as anything I have just made, especially given the pre-wash rinsing and dilution within the dishwasher itself. And the dishwasher, once throught the rinse cycle, will clean things much better than my (gloved!) hands ever could...
Any thoughts?

Adam, that's what I was thinking. Just don't put any other dishes in the dishwasher except for the soap making ones. I wasn't sure so I posted this question.

I won't put any of my soapmaking equipment with any handmade soap in the dishwasher any more. It can create a film on the walls. That film ends up on my eating utensils, dishes and glasses. Cheap dollar store liquid soap works better for me. I use it in the sink.

Irena, that is just the answer I was looking for. Telling me "no you can't" about anything is never good enough for me. Telling me the reason WHY the answer is no is much better!! I'm worse than a child, I know!

I wash everything by hand but about once a month I throw all soap stuff in the dishwasher for a good washing...I feel like I can never get everything completely clean by washing by hand.

Polypropylene (PP) plastic pitcher stronger and heat resistant

I looked at polypropylene plastic containers on the internet. The one with the highest heat temperature it could withstand was somewhere in the 121 c degree range. That works out to 249 f degrees. Will the lye water get hotter than that? Would the polypropylene plastic pitcher be a better choice for mixing the lye water than the stainless steel pitcher?

I mix my lye in a PP pitcher all the time. If you already have a stainless pitcher, then I would use that. There is no reason to invest in another pitcher when stainless will work perfectly well.
