I have a batch that has been curing for about 4 weeks...just checked in on it and it is still quite mushy/soft/smooshy...feels kinda like brie cheese. anyway i re-checked my recipe and it does look as though i used more water than i normally do. My question is: would re-batching help? Is there any hope for this batch?

What was your recipe, at what temps did you combine your lye and oils and how much did you superfat? Do you have an accurate scale?

Yes I have an accurate scale and out of the 30 or so batches of soap I have made so far, this is the only one I have had any problem with...The soap is usable - no zap, ph good...just soft.

here is my recipe:

20 oz. - Olive
10 oz. - Coconut
10oz - Sunflower
5 oz - Palm
5 oz - Hemp

6.8 oz - Lye
19.2 oz - water (this seems high and i don't know why the lye calc would have given me a higher liquid amt for this batch - I normally use about 16 oz of water for a batch this size).
6% SF
Soaped at about 110 degrees.

Any ideas?
Thanks so much!!
Jess

Coconut & palm are nice hard oils but they're only 30% of your recipe. Olive oil makes a hard bar, too, it just takes longer for it to get hard.
How long has it been since you've made it?

Oops, just saw that it's been curing for 4 weeks.
If you really want to you could rebatch it. I hate rebatching, so I've only done it once in the last 3 yrs of cp'ing and that was just the other day. If my soaps are too soft, I just let them cure until they're hard.

I think I am gonna try to rebatch...but I am not looking forward to the prospect of it. Just can't toss it...

I'd just wait. It will cure out eventually.

I have added way too much water a couple of times when rebatching. The soap came out really soft, but now after 3-4 months the bars are nice and hard. So, if you're not in a hurry to use it you might want to just chill on it and wait for it to harden up.

maybe i will rebatch some of it and wait on the rest and see which gets harder faster!! :) sounds like a good experiment!
