here goes......

does the wax/oil used for soapmaking have to be edible? i'm asking because in my house there lurks a few boxes
of swedish candlemaking wax - i haven't a clue as to what the actual wax is as there aren't any ingredients listed
but if it's possible that it could be used for soap then i'll try to find out what it's made of (if that makes sense!).

in case anyone out there speaks swedish, this is the brand/description:

G-be Gjutmassa
Granulated mass for molding of candles, wicks included, Full instructions on the package, Weight, 900g

:?

Well, I'd be surprised if the wax had any "soaping qualities" that would be desirable. Wax generally doesn't do anything but harden the soap. More than a tiny amount will actually reduce your lather.

On the other hand, almost any oil or fat can be used for soap making. Whether it makes a GOOD soap or not is another story. But you'd have to find out exactly what it is, and if it is not listed on the usual online soap calculators, you'd have to figure the SAP index and do a bit of math in order to use it.

BTW, I plugged your description into an online translator, and it came up with : "G-ask plastics".

It could be paraffin for all I know, but I wouldn't use it for soap.
