Teach Soap

For those who do cpop, do you use/sell your soap sooner than with regular cp? Is the cure time really cut down with cpop?

It's safe to use, but more water still needs to evaporate and the soap will get milder during curing. If you sell it as soon as it's cooked, the soap will dissolve very fast and won't last as long.

So how long should cpop cure? I just read that some of the water evaporates in the oven so a week is usually suffiecient...this was news to me b/c i had thought cpop needed to cure for the same amt of time as cp... Guess this is a "difference of opinion" type issue...

As I understand it CPOP merely forces gel phase and the soap still needs 4-6 weeks to cure.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I feel an experiment coming on. 1/3 of a batch gelled in the oven and another third gelled wrapped up in towels, one 1/3 ungelled in the fridge. Do weekly weights and see if the oven process does not lose the same percentage of water. OK, all you scientists out there what other varibles will I need to account for?

Same batch of soap preferably, and cure them in the same area, preferably very close to one another so there aren't any environmentally variables. Like in an uncovered shoe box, this would stop air flow changes (and temperature changes too!). This should give you a pretty good idea of the changes in weight with minimal environmental variation between the bars. The bars should also be weighed before the cure starts, to the smallest measurement possible; 0.01g would be ideal, but 1g wouldn't be too bad either. Even if they start off at different weights you could calculate the % change for comparison!

Unless you want to invest in a vacuum chamber... then it'd be 100% environmental variable neutral! LOL Here is a nice "cheap" one ... I SO want one, no idea why yet, but I do!

I wish my house was a vacuum chamber! I could switch it on before going to bed and it could suck up all the dust, crumbs and other things the kids leave lying around.

I cure it the same time as regular CP, 6 to 8 weeks, longer if possible.
