Teach Soap

I have recently made a couple of batches of castile - they look gorgeous so far, and I have settled myself in for a long wait for them to cure.

But...in the meantime - I need a few bars of castile pretty soon. I have not been able to find any real 100% OO castile around town. I will be shredding and rebatching these into a saddle soap concoction for a few friends. I still have 4-5 weeks till I'll need the soap - so I am hoping to find out whether HP is an option for castile...

Anybody ever actually done HP on a true castile recipe?

I haven't done it personally, but I have read that it is doable. It just takes a really long time to get to heavy trace! Good luck!!!

I did it a few weeks ago, when a castile batch didn't harden up after 24 hours. I put it in a double boiler and cooked it. It did crumble a bit out fo the mold (I think the layers didn't adhere). It seems fine now, although a darker color than I would have expected. It is hard, and I've used it as soap, and it's... soapy!

You can HP castile, but be aware that the soap won't be as hard as fully cured, and won't last as long since not all of the water has evaporated.

I did HP castile about 6 weeks ago but haven't tried it yet.

Came out really nice, way smoother than my other HP batches (this could be fluke) & surprisingly white.

Didn't take all that long to reach trace but it was only 3lb recipe.
