I'm using only EOs, but I live in a crunchy town, and I think that will be more appealing. Beyond that, though, you (if you're selling) have to decide what image you want to impart: what's your company about? I've been keeping bees and gifting and selling related products since 2004. My image of what I do and what I sell has really coalesced in the last year or so, when a lot of things came together: the plus of being a local business, the plus of having an ingredient label that's simple and clear, lots of requests from people with eczema or allergies, or other issues who like simple, natural products. My own realization that the things I was making from beeswax and oils were as good or better than what was in the stores, and so on.
In other words, I started developing an image of what my business model was, and that was more inline with EOs and natural (or no) colorants. It does mean that I can't do a rose soap for Valentine's Day, because I can't afford rose EO at $100 an ounce. But I can afford geranium, which is close, or I can get creative, and do a romantic floral with an inspiring name...
I may use a fragrance oil or two at some point--I won't rule it out, but for now, I'm trying to be creative with EOs, and build a line with them.
