Teach Soap

I'm planning on using a recipe I've used a couple of times now. Each time I've modified it slightly, but seeing as I'm still new to this, I'd like someone to check my calculations please.

I'd like to use Madder Root as a colourant and I plan on making an infusion and using 15% of the oil (EV olive oil) in the recipe.

The original recipe is:

397g Coconut Oil
567g EVOO
142g sodium hydroxide
340g water
(I'll be using Sun Ripened Raspberry FO)

According to my calculations, I would use 85.05g of infused EVOO and 481.95g of the regular EVOO. Is this correct?

As my digital scales don't do .5 increments, can I round it to 85g and 482g?


Edit: I'm actually working on my infusion at the moment. There is a lot of sediment at the bottom of the pot. Can I strain this before I pour it into a bottle (as I am making the batch tomorrow)?

Well, I finished the infusion. I had it over a low heat for 2 hours, then strained it into a bottle. It looks like a reddish brown colour. Does that sound about right?

The first batch I scorched. It smelled burnt and was just brown.

Update: I went ahead and just went with the recipe. My infusion was a bit of a fail though and my soap is a yellowish colour, rather than the nice pink I wanted to achieve. It's possible the oils I used had a lot to do with this. I also wasn't entirely happy with the outcome of the infusion. However, the house did have a lovely sweet woody smell yesterday. My batch is now doing it's 'thing' and smells amazing, at least. I still have some of the powder left, so next time I'll either try popping it in at trace, or a lye infusion. It's all a learning experience.....

Hehe! My soap looks pretty much uncoloured! I used Olive Oil and Coconut Oil. At least it smells nice!

I don't bother with an infusion anymore. I just add the madder root powder to my soap at trace.
