Sounds like it's the humidity. Would double sided tape work any better?

Hi Jcooper, I was just reading this thread as I have recently been trying CPOP and other methods when I saw your comment about tape not sticking. I bought a 2# wooden mold some months back and have this exact problem. After trying all sorts of tapes, I decided to use push pins instead. This has worked out OK. Now that the tack holes are established, I find them and the pushing is easy. I used plastic which I had on hand and they have held up in the CPOP process. However, they come in all metal, or large metal thumb tacks would work. As rainy and humid as our summer has been, yuck, I don't think that was my problem since I bought some little 1# molds and the tapes hold just fine. Good luck :)

I do CPOP with individual plastic molds (Hershey cocoa container, butter tubs) and only turn the light on. The light stays on for about 6 hours, then is turned off, and the soap sits in the oven another 6 hours or so. The soap gels, but sometimes seems to overheat as little bubbles have appeared on some. I usually cover the molds, but they may not need to be covered. (I've also used fruit herbal tea infused lye water, and yes, the soap is usually a shade of translucent brown.)

I wish I had an oven light. . .I would have loved to try that.

I was wondering about fragrance burn off in CPOP. Looking at so many recipes, many recommend .5 oz per pound. Do you up that for CPOP to compensate for the heat burn off? Any thoughts?

I use the same amount of fragrance whether I'm doing CPOP or not. I do vary the addition amount if the fragrance is extra strong or tends to fade, but I don't vary it for the method.

As a side note, if you take a look at some of my soaps on the Etsy site, all of them are done with CPOP - and I get a wide color variation. The colors may be more intense with CPOP if you're using dyes, but they don't necessarily turn brown or anything like that. You'll just need to experiment and see how your colorants react, and keep the fragrances and additives in mind since they can affect the results quite a bit.

I am not worthy, Magic Hands! All of your soaps are sooo beautiful! But I did see the color variations. I will keep trying! Seriously, how do you have time to make all those versions of soaps????

I stopped by Michael's crafts today and found a hand shaped cookie cutter. So in honor of you and your logo and your instruction, I will try to embed a hand in this soap to see how it comes out! If it works, I will send you some!

I have personally never done it but this video quickly came to mind. Take a look at what can happen...
