Well, those gremlins are at my house for sure. What I thought was FO leaking out started to solidify which had me wondering. So I took the soap out of the mold and there was a wierd spot of gooey mess on one area of the loaf. I tried the zap test and poof there it was!!!! I got zapped, like a bad halloween trick! So I waited one more day and cut the soap.... I did not think I would ever use this soap but I wanted to see my swirl. I had pockets of something within the soap itself. But on the good side, I liked my first mantra swirl - maybe not the color, but the swirl was better than I anticipated. So I took a photo (will post later this week) and then dumped it in the garbage. This was the first soap I had to throw away. So I wonder what made this happen. I also poured two other molds - a silicone snowball and 2 plastic gingerbread men. None of those separated or zap... I have tested each one daily for 3 days. Those molds did not go in the oven to force gel.... could this have happend because my soap overheated? I did use a new receipe - palm kernal oil for the first time and a FO I had never tried before. As I was mixing it sure looked as if it was behaving. I am going to try the FO again this week, but use my usual receipe. And I will make room in the feezer... anyone want to stop over and eat ice cream or lemon ice with me ??

Why didn't you try to rebatch it in the crockpot? If you were sure of your calculations you could have possibly saved the batch by putting some gloves on and scraping the whole mess into your soapmaking crockpot and cooking it. If your calculations may have been slightly off possibly adding 2%- 5% of the weight in oils would have fixed it. I sure would have tried as throwing a whole batch like that out would have made me just sick.
Sorry your batch went south :(

Initially when I thought it was just the FO I was going to use it chuncked up in another batch, but when I got zapped that was out. I contemplated rebatching but because I am a little pressed for time with work, going to my dtrs for a vacation soon, and the need to get all of my christmas soaps done before I leave, I decided to pitch it. I have only rebatched once before - was not my favorite thing to do - and I still need to pick up a crockpot for that purpose. If this had happened in the dead of winter when I have more time I would probably have tried to save it.
Dave, the batch was not leather - or I would have done whatever I could have to save that baby! :P This one was 'sweet roasted chestnut'. The batch was only 2 pounds, that is my usual size.

Guess it isn't too much of a loss then :(
Your time is likely worth much more then the cost of ingredients. It sure would have been a hard thing for me to do though-lol!

Sometimes it is the best just to chuck it instead of wasting more ingredients to fix it. I hope your next batch is a success!

Especially if one is not well practiced in rebatch. If if was a slower time of the year I would have tried it just for the experience, but my time is short.

Well, tomorrow is garbage day... had my 'bad' soap in a plastic bag ready to go out but then this morning I thought - maybe I should try a rebatch - I can get the laundry done inbetween this process. So I did it... rebatch #2. This time I did it in the oven... worked so much better than the first time. The color is better than before the rebatch, texture is not bad, the scent held, NO MORE ZAP! I did add 1 oz of grapeseed oil - thats 3% increase. The one thing that I notice is that both of my rebatch soaps feel lighter in weight. I did pour some of the rebatch into my gingerbread men molds so can do an actual weight comparison once they have cured. And no I did not finish the laundry but there is tomorrow.

Thanks Mesha! And the more it is curing the more I am loving this scent. Will work well for Christmas.
