what are your thoughts on using Crisco in your soap recipes? Something about it just seems ?????

I prefer not to use it. I have a good formula without it.

Sb ,what are the benifits of using it and what are the negatives,somehow to me its like eating white bread cause its good and filling but its just not as healthy as wheat. I want to make a basic HP for use when I'm just creating a scented bar of soap with my FO's,I still want it be better than store bought but not like my luxury bars full of butters and oils,you know what I mean?

I have often included Crisco in my soap recipes. It helps to make a nice bar.

I have been using Crisco in my batches because its a cheap way to get a nice blend of different oils, and its easily found on the lye calculator. I have been committed to using it at first so that I can comfortably and afford-ably learn the process of making soap. Once I have had some practice I will feel more comfortable purchasing some different oils to play with. But, it also think makes a nice bar of soap. I prefer to call it "vegetable oil" though, to get rid of any silly attachments to the Crisco brand LOL. I just hope that one day I don't accidentally substitute butter flavor Crisco!

The only bars I have EVER had DOS on were recipes that contained Crisco....
Sad, too - because I liked the bars,( other than that), and I liked the price

Crisco is just soy oil and cottonseed oil, so it's not really such a weird thing to use after all, and it's vegan. There's also a version with palm oil, which I don't use, because of the whole deforestation thing. I use Crisco or a store brand of it instead, along with cocoa butter and other oils, and it makes a nice hard bar.
