This is my third try at goats milk soap. The first time i used a loaf mold and soap got too hot. Second time i used a cardboard box on blocks, uncovered and soap didnt gel to edges or cooled off too quickly around edges. Third try used wooden slab mold on blocks with a covered top. Still looked the same, egdes lighter, center darker in color. Why won't it gel correctly? Should i insulate and not peek? I soap at 100 degrees for oils and lye. Was it too cold in my garage(60*)?

Have you tried pouring at a heavy trace? That's what I do and I elevate my wood mold and I don't insulate and knock on wood never had any overheating problems or partial gel.

It's ok if it doesn't gel all the way to the edges unless the edges are crumbly. It will still make good soap. I prefer not to gel, so mine go in the fridge or the freezer. Try putting your mold in a low oven (170 degrees US) and leave it there only long enough til it completely gels. Then take it out and let it cool of.

I ended up rebatching this soap but don't really care for the rustic brick look. Thanks for all your suggestions. I would like to give some smooth nice looking goats milk soap as gifts so, to the freezer it goes. After the holidays i'll experiment again and see if i can get it to gel properly.
