Teach Soap

Hi,
I made a usual 50 ounce batch of CP soap made of 40 oz olive oil and 10 oz coconut oil. Added BB black oxide to oils before adding the lye. All going nice and well with my stick blender. I received a 1/2 ounce sample of "Grapefruit Lily" from BB with my order and my wife and god daughter absolutely love it so I slowly put in the full 1/2 oz at thin trace as i'm blending with my stick blender. By the time i get from my garage into the house to pour it is really getting thick....filled 2 OOPS molds and put the rest into my silicone loaf mold. Before getting it all into the silicone loaf it got so thick it was no longer pourable, just dumpable......couldn't even spread it with my stainless spoon ???? I guess you don't stick blend Grapefruit Lily ??????????????? my soap room smelling good right about now though

Note to self: Don't use stickblender when using Grapefruit Lily. (or any other floral FO that I have tried.)

If you've made this recipe before without problems I'd say your FO is the culprit.

You can try adding your FO to the melted base oils before you add the lye solution. And no stick blending.

I think it's the FO. Next time either add the FO to your cooled off oils, or use a whisk as you add the FO.

For most of my FO I either just use my stick blender as a stir stick (not turned on) or like SB said, use a wisk. This is especially true with spice fragances or florals. But there are receipes that can be concocted that will do this is well. Last Christmas I blamed my peppermint EO only to find out the next time I used that receipe with a different fragrance I got the same result. Its a shame because it makes a great soap!
