Teach Soap

I recently started using the SoapCalc calculator and you have to enter your water percentage or whatever. That's obviously very different from The Sage's lye calculator which gives you a low amount and a high amount. So what percentage of water should I use? I'm cooking a batch right now and it seems like it's taking forever for the water to cook out. Although I am also using a different recipe and it could just be that......

I use soapcalc, too. when I first started I used the default value of 38% for the water. Now I use 33% unless I want time to work with my soap. Since you do HP rather than CP, you can probably go with a lower % of water. You can play with the percentages on soapcalc until you come up the an amount that is close to MMS's lower amount.

After several batches of HP,I run a recipe through Bramble Berry's and then Majestic Mountain Sage,just to double check, I discovered that I prefer to use the FULL amount of water recommended,and I prefer to SLOW cook my batch,I found that if I discounted the water and cooked on a higher heat my soap would feel and look dryer, as if it were dehydrated,and it was not easy to handle when plopping into molds. A slow cook gives me a nice smooth moist soap and any EXTRA water content is only going to help with the POUR of the soap and the rest will be evaporated out as it cures.
