I'm sure this question has been answered before, but I can't find it.

I am desperate for a good red that will hold up in CP. I don't want an orange or a pink, I need a red. Even if it's a darker shade that'd be fine. I need it for a HUGE batch of special order soap for Halloween.

Other than using natural colorants, I haven't really played around too much with micas and pigments. I need it to be as close to blood red as posible.

Thanks in advance :)

I've read that red is sorta a no-go in CP soap :(

That said, you "could" do a rebatch and THEN add your red colorant of choice and that way the saponification process wouldn't destroy the color.

I was on the this amazing soap site a few days ago and they use pomegranate I believe for a deep pinkish red??? I remember thinking hey, how do they get that nice red color? And then I realized that they mill the soap (i.e. fancy rebatching) ;)

It's here: http://www.arghand.org/soaps.html

Be warned: there are some GORGEOUS soaps on this site!

HTH,
Karri

Red is very difficult to achive in cold process soap. If you add to much red, it will look like you're bleeding and so will your washcloth and tub. So far, the best I found is BrambleBerry's burgundy mica but that's not a true red, or colorona bordeau red from TKB Trading.

Thanks for the help. I know red is so hard to achive, on the flip side, I've seen so many beautiful soaps with reds in them. I think the burgundy will work out well. I *need* to make a BB order this week anyway ;) The soap needs to be red, black, and gray, so it should turn out nicely.

Since it's a special order, and needs to be very specific, it can't be a rebatch. I have to pour it as smooth as posible for what they want. It's a hauted house party that gets very messy, and this year they thought it'd be good fun to give away soaps as favors for a bit of irony :D

I used BB's red merlot mica and gotten a red. I also tried mixing it with their red mica - came out looking like tomato soup. I think the next time I tried the red I would use TD to whiten the soap first and then the color. My base usually is a golden color so that could affect my color a little.

My Celtic Cherry has BB's mica. I didn't use it full strength. http://www.gingersgarden.com/handmade-s ... egory_id=8

Oh yeah, where can I get the red clay? I've already ordered the mica, but I would love to have the clay too ;)
