Teach Soap

I don't have a stainless steel sink, I have a white sink I guess it is enamel or something....when I dispose of the lye will this be a problem??
Or should I pour some vinegar first in the container to nutralize???

I'm curious as to why you're disposing of lye? Is there something wrong with it? Is it old? Or are you just talking about washing out your soap pot and lye container after soaping?
If you're just washing, the sink will be fine. I too have an enamel sink, I don't bother with vinegar unless there's a spill

If this is for cleaning pots and pans, if you wait til the next day, it will be soap. Then you can just rinse it out.

thank you, yes it was for cleaning out the container....I didn't even buy lye yet, but I want to be prepared before I start.....

Your sink will be just fine when cleaning the lye container, just remember to wear your gloves when cleaning!

If you don't want to leave your things until the next day when it has turned to soap, Anne Watson's book has a great tip for getting the oils off everything. Before adding any water to your pot/utensils, squirt some dish soap (I use Dawn) in and use your gloved hand to work the soap into whatever oils are still in the pot and on the utensils, then rinse well with hot water. This really helps get the oils broken down quickly. Then wash again or put in the dishwasher.
