A lot of the soap I make is made from goat milk. I never let the lye heat it to more than 120, but my soap is still always very yellow/orangy. Is that still too high of a temp?

I want to experiement more with keeping the goat milk at a lower temp(adding lye to frozen the milk?) to keep it from getting orange and back to a cream. Is this possible? What are the lowest temps I can melt the oils into the milk/lye solution? Thank you! I really do try to find these things myself first, but I haven't come up with this answer yet.

Well, if my latest attempt is any indication,it makes no difference how low you go, it will still turn orange. I soaped very low, with a slurry, and sat my lye bath in ice/cold water too, and mine turned dark orange/brown and got very thick. See my thread "Lye pudding". Since I had not intended to go super low on the temp., I was surprised when it cooled so fast.

When I make goat's milk soap, I use minimum water required to dissolve the lye, then add the rest as goat's milk.

Mine turned orange too, even using frozen milk. That's why I like the powder - I just mix it into the oils and away I go! So far, coconut milk is the only one that stayed white. 8)

I use powdered too, or I will add canned in at light trace ....(deducting the amt. of milk from my water.)

p.s. to answer your question about temperatures.....I've always heard not to let it go over 110
