I would like to try milk, goat's milk, or beer soap, but I am afraid to because I cannot eat any of these substances--I have gluten intolerance AND cannot digest cow or goat's milk (the protein in it is the problem). This may sound silly, but since I avoid those things like the plague in my diet, I wonder if I should worry about them in soap. Does anyone else eat a GF/DF diet and is still able to use soaps containing these ingredients?

(This question especially applies to my son, whose milk and gluten problems appear in the form of horrible eczema--take gluten and milk out of his diet, the eczema disappears. Naturally I might shy away from putting milk on his skin.)

Maybe I ought to experiment with the leftover gluten-free beer in my fridge. I am pregnant now and so won't be drinking it for a while . . .

In your case I would wait til after the baby is born. I am lactose intolerant, but I can use goat's milk with no problem.

I would not try any ingredient that you question with first speaking to your Doctor, no matter what anyone else says. It is far better to error on the side of caution! In my experience though, it really depends upon the reason(s) that you are intolerant, as to if you can use the ingredients or not. If you are allergic in any way, then NO, do not use those ingredients in your soap. If you (only) have celiacs, then you can probably use the ingredients without any difficulties.

But I would not try anything new and unproven while you are pregnant, unless your Dr. (who knows the details of your intolerance and that you are carrying a baby) gives the okay. Also please remember to be cautious with the handling of, and the use of, EO's and herbs, (if you use them) as some are to be avoided during pregnancy.
As for your Son, if he exhibits eczema when he ingests dairy, then do NOT let him use soap with those ingredients. If he is that sensitive at a young age, then he would probably break out terribly. Not to mention that, with repeated exposure to allergens, the reaction often becomes more severe.

soapcreator,
I have both gluten and dairy issues. I have never had an issue with a milk based soap. Though I can drink goat milk, hemp milk, almond milk without a problem. As for the gluten, I make sure I use gluten-free ingredients. For example some people use oatmeal as an additive in their soap. I use gluten-free oats instead. CP is nice because you can control absolutely everything in your soap. Most oils are gluten-free, it's the additives you have to watch out for.

If you have celiacs you should not use wheat based/gluten containing ingredients in your skin care products. While the gluten molecule is too small to penetrate skin it can cause an allergic reaction, ezcema, or "celiacs rash".
As for lactose intolerance, most people with it have no problem digesting goats milk, hemp milk and almond milk (they aren't really milk). So they should be OK, but always test and check with your MD.
