I've used it many times without incident. A pro is that you can set up hours and hours before hand and when you get to soaping there is no temps to worry about. When I make a whipped soap I have to use room temperature, as far as I understand. I have heard of false trace when using the room temp method but have yet to experience it. Try a shot at it with a small batch.
Also, from what I understand there are two types of room temperature mixing. One involves having your hard oils ready then pouring your lye solution HOT just after you get all the lye dissolved in your water. This will melt your hard oils. After melted you add your liquid oils. I've never done this method, only the method having lye and oils at a room temp.
