Teach Soap

Supersoaper I know you can answer this for me. I love the soap molds you got for me and I used one last night based on calculations about using a rectangular mold. But I want to experiments with using pvc tubes for 3" 2" & 2.5". How do I figure out how much soap goes into a mold. I got a 10" long 3" diametter pvc mold. If you could teach me how to do it then I can figure out for the other sizes. I will unmold the other mold you gave me and tell you how they turned out. I used my new coconut oils last night. πR2h is the formula for area of a circle. Remember this formula.

Where π is 3.1416. R is the radius is the measurement from the center of the circle to the edge. IN FEET……NOT INCHES. Then square that amount.

h is the height of your tube IN FEET…..NOT INCHES.

So a 3 inch tube radius is 1.5 inches….converted to feet is 0.125 feet. 0.1252 square is .01563.
.01563 x 3.1416=.04910. .04910 x height of your tube (again IN FEET NOT INCHES). .04910 x .8333 = .040917 cubic feet (remember this number)

A cubic foot contains 7.48 gallons of liquid.

So…..7.48 x .040917= .3061 gallons of liquid.

Oils weigh roughly 8.2 pounds per gallon. Therefore, your total of oils & water should weigh approximately 2.5 pounds to fill it to the top. Maybe a little less so you do overshoot it if your measurements aren’t exact. I’m guessing you can calculate the 2.5 pounds backwards to the formula you use to your recipe. Feel free to check my numbers but I’m pretty sure they’re correct.

I'm no good at math. So i take the easy way out. If you have the molds on hand you can lay them on your scale and fill them up with water to the brim and Voila! You know how much it holds :]

You cheater. But yes, that is one way to do it. What if you wanted to calculate it for a rain barrel? You'd need a pretty big scale.

Thank you again Supersoaper. Now I know why Love2Dostuff calls you SupermanSoaper. You are a pretty handy guy to have around!! Do you happen to have a brother do you? HA!! Yeah I am a math teacher so that is pertty pathetic huh? But it is only third grade math and I am only a part time. I was able to figure it out for the other sizes but I was able to weigh it on my scale so thank you Complex also!!

luvsoap26. I will give you math tutoring if you give me English tutoring. My spoken English has been horrid lately. I can write grammatically correct English but it requires too much thought sometimes so I only do it when it's absolutely necessary.

On Monday through Friday a school bus stops at the road leading to my house and, depending on the day, anywhere from 5 to 12 kids will come to my house. There is only 1 boy and the rest are high school girls and 2 middle school girls. They come to hang out until their parents get off work and pick them up. They ride horses, swim (in the spring/summer), or watch TV and play games, do homework or help Sveta cook or do things around the house. Sveta always fixes snacks for them....she'll make a wonderful mother someday. There are several who have trouble with math or science and I usually work with them helping to understand basic principals or study for tests.....sometimes also with homework. They teach me better English and I teach them math, biology, physics and chemistry. It's a pretty good arrangement. It's sad though because at the end of each school year, the older girls disappear to college. But in the spring there are always new faces. If you or anybody here needs help with anything from BioChemistry to Physics or math please send me a PM and I'll be happy to assist you. Once you know how to calculate mold size and volume, the rest is easy.

SuperSoaper, sounds like a great deal! It does sound like your wife will make an excellent mother! My little girl is 9 (her name is Dixie) and she loves math!!! She also enjoys her spelling, english and science class as well though. Just don't ask her to enjoy history! She absolutely hates it! We are working on that...I told her she doesn't have to enjoy it but she will do it and I do expect A's or B's on tests! This does not make her happy! LOL We have lots of critters for her to play with...3 horses (1 miniature horse, a 12h paint pony and my Paint mare), 3 dogs and a cat but there are no kids for her to play with after school. Working on getting some more goats now...I want to have a milk goat for making soap! Hmmm I am rambling tonight! Must be the lack of sleep!

I have a ton of PVC pipes... I usually just make up a batch and then if my PVC mold wont hold it, i grab another
