Teach Soap

Going to have a soap making marathon for the next few days for Easter presents. I want to make a 8 lb. batch. I have been using a standard 8lb. receipe out of Alicia Grosso's book using Coconut, Olive, Palm and Supperfated with Castor. I want to add a good amount of Shea and do not know how to create a new, well balanced, hard bar of soap using exsisting ingredients. How can I add in the Shea butter with the following ingredients to create a new receipe. Currently the receipe in the book is Lye: 1lb. 3oz. Water: 3lb. Olive: 4lb. 8oz. Coconut: 2lb. Palm: 1lb. 8oz. Supperfatted with Castor: 8tbl. Thank you for taking a look at my issue

I can do it for you or teach you how to use it then you can do it yourself from now on. It's a wonderful tool for soapmakers and very intuitive and easy to use.

Plugging your numbers in, I get 3 pounds of water and 1.19 pounds of lye. Keep in mind, that this does not account for your 8 tbs of castor oil. You should be fine.

Thanks! I just want to know how much Shea to put in. If you can make a receipe, I would be very grateful. If you can show me how you did it using Soapcalc, I would love it!

where it says "Weight of Oils" (BOX 2) change that to ounces. Keep in mind that 3.2 pounds of oils does not mean 3 pounds 2 ounces. Convert you measurements to ounces. Then, select an oil from the list of oils in Box 5 and click the little + sign next to the number 1 (in Box 6) and you'll see the oil you selected displayed. Repeat this step for each oil. In Box 7 change the "dot" so ounces is selected.

After you have entered all of your oils go to Box 8 and click "calculate recipe". Then click "view or print recipe". A new window should pop up displaying all of your water and lye measurements and ratios. Easy Peasy Boss.
