Yesterday I was making a double batch of pumpkin soap (from Soap Queen) with my son's class. Just as we poured the lye into the oils my stick blender died (talk about bad timing). So we hand stirred it--which was a challenge since it was 10 # of soap. After what seemed like FOREVER the soap finally began to trace a bit but I kept stirring because I wanted it thick enough to have the two colors swirl. All of a sudden it got very thick--almost like seizing but not the same, I've had that happen. We got it in the mold then when I checked back later I saw that the soap was separating and there was a layer of oil on the top. I'm not entirely sure what happened; perhaps it was a false trace because the oils got too cold? That seems possible in theory although it DID have a light trace which I think was legit.
Anyway, the real question is: can I save this batch? If so, how??? The kids were planning to give these to their parents for Christmas.

Thanks!
Peggy
