i still think it's overheating. ask lisa to show you the flickr photo of an overheated spice batch - looks the same to me!

and sometimes soap with a fast gel can get hot in the center of the log, before you see the signs on top of the log.

ps - i don't have to try to mess up a batch. i have one right now that's going to get renamed to "chunky fug - now with scorched goat milk". how's that for a marketing spin?

And, fwiw I used Basmati Rice and had that marbling thing happen. Like, it kinda looks like crackle that you use to make furnature look old? Paint, let dry, then it gets the veining? As the soap aged, it got less noticable, because the vanilla really browned it up kwim?
