Hi there- I was hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. I want to make salt bar's for presents. I thought the Soap Queen blog had a posting for saltbar recipe. I searched the site, but can't find it.

Have any of you made salt bars? Are they drying? Any tips?

Try 100% coconut with 20% superfat. Add as much salt as you have in oils.

That seems like a good balance of suds and moisture, with salt. I'm anxious to try it and wonder if my friends/family will like it.

I'm going to CPOP it, because time is wasting before the holidays. Speaking of which, I don't have sea-salt on hand and wonder if Kosher or table- salt would be fine.

I have to place an order anyway, is it worth it to wait. Does it make a difference?

You're welcome. I've used regular table salt and it worked out fine.

With fragrancing salt bars, should I still fragrance per pound of oil or include salt weight?

I made Salt Bars for the first time. Thanks to Soapbuddy's advice I had a nice bubbly lather. Overall, I don't think I will make them again. I found the salt to be drying. I did CPOP and used them after about two weeks. Do you think they will become more mild and less drying in time? Has anyone else found them to be drying?

They can be drying. I would suggest making a 100% coconut bar with 20% superfat. Just leave out the salt. Or use your regular recipe and superfat at around 7%.

Could someone explain to me the benefits of salt bars? I'm learning so much I've never heard of before from this forum, and I love it.

I'm also wondering about the benefits of additives in CP soaps. Does everything react with the lye, and if so, is there any point to additives except the aesthetic value? I love the idea of all the rich oils, and milks, vegetable juices, etc, but do they actually have any benefit? A woman in Australia is making a fortune with goat's milk soaps. People are buying them for skin problems, and apparently they work. As I said, I'm a bit confused about the lye reaction. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum - it's a real eye-opener, and learning experience.

Lye will negate some additives like herbal extracts or tea. Goat's milk has lactic acid and natural sugars, so that could be why people like goat's milk soaps. Some additives are only added for label appeal.
