Does any one have ideas on how to make a pink soap but keep it natural? Is there maybe an essential oil out there that leaves behind a pink color? What about food coloring, what are peoples opinions on that? Does it color good and is it still considered natural?

you may be able to use pink kaolin clay or some pink micas.

Hi, I too like natural colorants and food coloring is not stable. Beet root, clay, etc are more natural but very hard to make the color you want. Food coloring in my experience (only one year so wait for the experts) always isn't what you expect, not stable, and they do fade if your soap gets in the sun. I did try some puree of dried cranberries with a touch of water and my latest soap is speckled pink with a slightly purple/pink tone. Good luck, if you find something that works more to a pink tone, I'd love to hear about it. I may just have to go with the micas and labcolorants like most use for those wonderful colored soaps. Also, my oils leave the natural soap with a yellow tone, so that may also be why it's hard to get pink.

Yes, pink clay will work, just as long as you don't have a lot of yellow based soap oils.

I use French pink clay in a recipe that uses coconut, palm, olive and sunflower and works great. 1 tablespoon in a 10lb mix gives a nice soft, pinky colour.

My recipe is also coconut, palm and olive (no sunflower though). I would love to try french pink clay. Where do you happen to purchase it?

Thank you all of you for the responses! This forum rocks!

It's better to use soap safe colors instead of food coloring which tends to morph.

I accidentally made a pink soap tonight that was all natural, so you may want to try it. Don't laugh, you pros, as I am just learning this and seems to LOVE all of my accidents!

I used: 16 oz veg shortening, 6 coconut, 4 plain grapeseed, 1 lavendar infused grapeseed oil, 2 rosemary infused oiive oil plus about 3.88 lye and 9.57 water (not that I ever get that exact).

At trace, I added .5 oz organic pink grapefruit, 1.25 oz Sea Island Grapefruit (elements) and a grapefruit ginger splash.

The color was a beautiful pinkish peach. I think tossed in about a tsp of tumeric to see what that would do.

Anyways, the whole batch looks like a beautiful pink grapefruit (and the scent remains!) and it was using no added colorant other than the tumeric. Must have had something to do with the lavender and rosemary oils, but those are green after I am done so it doesn't make sense to me.

Anyways, you might want to try it too!

I've read that yellow dock powder makes a nice pink. There were photos on another forum...

Pink clay is the easiest.
