So. Salt Bars turn to bricks. Could you make a "not salt bar" bar, but use salt to harden your recipe? Wouldn't you have to up your CO to get the bubbleage? Thus hardening the bar anyway? Thus not needing to harden your bar?

I was wondering that too! I would think you'd need to up your CO a little but not a lot. And if you up it w/o adding the salt, then you'd just get the normal drying effect of too much CO. Salt does seem to counteract that.

I'm already thinking....what would be the harm in adding 10% to every recipe? Seems like it would only be a good thing. But I'll wait to see what others say.

I add salt to every batch now... but we're only talking about 1 tsp. ppo.
I have not done any scientific studies but I've read a lot that it helps harden the bars and after a little curing time mine are always nice and firm.

I do not adjust the CO however I also use a small amount of honey and Castor oil in almost every batch as well and believe me... bubbles are NO problem!

I reserve a little water (before lye is added) and dissolve some sugar and salt. I wing it...about 1T for a 5# oil batch, and then add it back in when the lye is dissolved.

I use sodium lactate in every batch. It's a form of salt.
