Teach Soap

I've been reading through the Soapmaker's Companion and the Everything Soapmaking Book over the past few days. Does anyone use a stand mixer when making soap? I have a KitchenAid, but I would be hesitant to use it for this. I would probably buy separate bowl/paddle to use only for soap making, as this seems safest. I wouldn't mind getting an immersion/stick blender (I'm sure I have one somewhere, but it's probably very old), which could be cheaper than a new stainless bowl/paddle anyway. Has anyone used both and prefer one over the other?

any stand mixer is going to incorporate air into your soap and it is not advised. the standard method is using a stick blender because the mixing is at the bottom and won't produce air bubbles unless you lift the stick blender off the bottom of your container that you are using. Plan to use pots & utensils for soapmaking only. It is not a good idea to use them for cooking afterwards.

I should have said. It is recommended to never use pots or utensils that you have chosen for soapmaking to use in cooking afterwards.

KA is not good for soap as it whips too much air into it. Try to find your stick blender.

I love my KitchenAid dearly, but I think it would be terrible for soapmaking.

Actually...a KitchenAid type mixer is just the perfect thing for whipped soap. I made a batch and it was not only superfun to make, but I didn't have to worry about temps, since everything is soaped at RT. Otherwise, like the rest said...a stickblender for cold process method.

Yes, as a matter of fact, Nizzy inspired me. I LOVE my whipped soap. It really does float, too.
