Teach Soap

I have always read about insulating your soaps. Since I have been reading all the posts one this site I have learned that many of you freeze/refrig your batches. Can you explain the difference.

I freeze because I use milk and it has a better look and truer smell from the fo if it doesn't overheat or gel. It also comes out of the mold easier! I think years ago, it was thought that your soap had to gel to get total saponification. Now we know that a good cure of at least 4weeks produces a hard mild bar that doesn't discolor as much as it does during the gel. Since the gel phase also produces alot of heat, sometimes that will affect the outcome of some fragrance oils--- they may morph.

Thank you, I also use milk and have learned that if I over insulate there is problems. I tried the freezer last night for my first two batches this way. Everything looks good so far. I did get that odd lye spot on the top??? The rest of the bar looks fine but one spot failed the zap test. I think I should be ok it I just scrap it off.

I use the fridge or the freezer to prevent gel. My soaps come out lighter, scents tend to morph less and I like the way the soap feels.

I would check for zap in some of the other bars. If they zap as well, I would suggest that you rebatch, if the recipe is ok otherwise.

Nothing else zapped, just the spot I suspected. 5% superfat.

I just put my cp soap in the freezer, after 24hrs of being wrapped, the soap has quite a gel state on it and I have posted pics in the cp forum, when is a good time to do this and how long should it stay there?

Normally, you can take the soap out after it's been in the freezer, let it come to room temp, then cut it.
