Teach Soap

Show today. Was up waaaaay late last night wrapping. I'm ready....I think....

Forgot to get change. Raided DH's change bowl. Forgot to get ones. Begged DH to swipe some from the store.
Will be hemming a "tablecloth" momentarily.
Swiped decorative things from my home for my display.
Ran out of labels.
I have a zit on my chin.

But....the weather should be nice!
I have an umbrella.
I have a helper, who works for nearly free (gotta love teenagers!)
And if it's deader than dead, I can always knit.

Just curious, how much soap are you bringing? Is it a craft show or farmer's market?

I had a not-so-good experience this past Saturday. I was invited to a juried art show with my hand-made soap. I've been preparing for months now, making batches of C/P soap and then did the Crazed-Monkey thing several days before with packing and shrink-wrapping.

The art show was held at someone's residence (so it was indoors) and there was plenty of food and treats, etc. There seemd to be quite a few people coming through but they were mostly "lookie-loos" and "sniffers". I made a few sales, but did not do nearly as well as I do at craft shows and the Farmer's Market.

Have any of you has a dismal show like this?? I'm pretty bummed!

I kwym...there was one gal that seemed disappointed with the selection had...even though I thought I had quite the variety. Then FORCED herself to buy a honey-almond oatmeal bar. Geez, I want you to be happy...not twist your arm! I can't wait to do a public venue...I'll update you then!!!

I bet you had a nice selection - some people are just like that and there's always one in the crowd.

I just think that this was not the venue for my products. I normally have great sales at craft shows.

One thing was funny, though. I almost always get requests for unscented products. So, this time, I was prepared. I made up a nice batch that was fragrance and colorant free. I call it my "Bare Essentials" soap and on the label it does say (in clear lettering right under the name), "Fragrance and Colorant Free". Yet, people still sniffed it. I would have to tell them, "Uh, you're not going to pick up any scent from that one..."

I was totally wondering that today. Because I've yet to make an unscented, but I should you know? It's kinda like when someone superglues a quarter to the table...you wonder how many people will try and pick it up! I bet EVERYONE tries to sniff the unscented soap. Just watch.

Heavenly Scent - you know, we all have bummer shows now and then, for whatever reason. Sorry about yours, but I'm sure it has nothing at all to do with your products. Just the wrong venue or the wrong moment or the wrong vibe, and you'll do great at the next one.

I have had a couple of very disappointing shows. The last one I did I had 2 sales all day and one of them was my friends grandmother. She is my best customer anyway. She had come out to bring us food and decided to go ahead and get some soap while she was there. The other sale was one bottle of lotion. So it does happen. I was supposed to do a sale this saturday but because of the swine flu, they have postponed it until June 20th. That's ok. Gives me more time to prepare so I don't have to be a crazed monkey. I was worried about my inventory anyway so now I don't have to be.
