Got a favorite? Got a nemesis?

I was looking at the I-bar ones at national shrink wrap...which are cool...but expensive. Like $50+ more than "other" sealers, that are L-bar, you know with a hinge?

I-bar looks fantastically fast...but looks like it needs a silicone mat, or teflon mat.

Thoughts? Do you wrap?

I feel the soap feeeeeee-vaaaaaahhhhhh comin on....:D

I have a regular heat sealer that also cuts. It has worked so far.

What do you consider "regular"....is that something different than the I-bar and the hinged one?

Sorry, I meant the hinged one.

I don't know if this will be helpful, but I plan on trying it myself soon.

I work at a record store and we have an industrial size shrink wrap machine. I order large rolls of shrink wrap for this machine from Uline for around $50. It's like, hundreds of feet long and will wrap many, many soaps. Before heating, it is similar to a cellophane bag for candy (think Wilton) and after heating it is similar to saran wrap. I'm going to buy a roll from the store for my own soaps and use an embossing gun (which should be plenty hot) to wrap my soaps. Ideally, you should have the seal around the edges but I think the heat should take care of that.

Just an idea for you folks looking for clear wrapping ideas.

Funny you should ask...
I just requested samples of different types of wrap from National Shrink Wrap. They were very helpful and even offered to wrap some of my bars for me in different types of wrap to see the difference.

I kinda want to see how it feels to work with it but my main goal is to see if I like the look and feel of Polyolefin. I really want the best of both worlds in seeing and smelling my soaps. Their (National) system is pricey but it looks easy to use and I believe it comes with everything you need including the heat resistant mat. If you already have a heat shrink gun (I do) they will deduct that from the total cost... otherwise it is also included.

So I don't have a definitive answer for you but hope to soon.

I also purchased my shrink wrap system from National Shrink Wrap. I have been very satisified with the products and the customer service is great. They stand behind their products and if you have any problems or questions, they will provide assistance. I use the perforated Polyolyfin and it works very well for my soaps. And, because it is perforated, your customers can still smell with soaps.

Yes, it is a bit costly, but I think you're getting good value. My system is over 2 years old and I haven't had any problems with it at all.
