Hi all,

I'm a new soaper, just made my first 2 batches. I'm wondering how you clean your soap making utensils like spoons, measuring cups, etc. So far I have just been washing everything with dish soap, but am curious about what others do.

I just wash mine in a strong dish soap as well. Have to wash them twice usually to get through all the oils.
I have heard of people rinsing their dishes with vinegar first but I keep seeing some info that says it helps and then some info that says it is pointless....

Anything that has been used to measure "just" oil....wash per normal with dish soap.

Things that had lye water in it, rinse thoroughly then wash per normal with dish soap. These are ONLY for lye.

Things that have had raw soap on them? Bag and wait until the next day, then run hot water in it...since it makes its own soap and all. ;)

Beeswax/oil measuring containers...pour when hot, then there's a little residue left in there. I just leave it and never wash them. Disposable plastic containers I use for this. The spoon I use to mix with I make sure gets some raw soap on it so it eats off they beeswax residue.

I know, it sounds complicated....but it's not!

I use the Dollar Store dish soap as well. None of my pots or utensils are used for anything else.

WHat seems to be working for me lately is washing my lye and oil tools first (I wash them twice!) and then letting my soapy tools sit out over night. Next morning, I run the hot water and put all the soaped up utensils in the biggest pot (usually the one I used for tracing). I plug in the stick blender and mix until I get lots of suds! :) THe hot water will soften up any of the hard soap-bits. The blending makes extra suds. Really this last step only incorporates your soaping pot, spatula, whisk and/or hand blender.

I wipe out my soaping buckets and other soapy items with unprinted newspaper sheets.
Then, everything sits overnight. The next day, I pile it all into my soap bucket and add hot, hot water.
Wash, rinse, make more soap. :)
