Teach Soap

I was on vacation last week in florida and ran into a soap maker vending at a flea market. I bought one of her soaps to treat myself since all I ever use is mine. It smelled wonderful and was displayed nicely. She was a very nice lady and seemed to know what she was talking about. Her soap is hot process. When I used it it hardly lathers at all and feels chalky. Such a shame since I think the bones of your buisness are repeat customers.

It's sad, but it happens.

there is no way I would by this soap again. How can she not know ? She sells melt and pour also so she knows what good lather is. I don't want to email her and tell her I didn't like the soap cause it would hurt her feelings. Im thinking her buisness is going to be hurt by this HP she sells.

Obviously she does not know. Someone aught to tell her. Hurt feelings or not, this could affect other soapmakers as well.

Most people don't know how soap is made. They buy from her, don't like her soap and will most likely never buy handmade soap again from anyone else.

Maybe it was just a bad batch and she's unaware?

If you have her contact information, I would send her a note and let her know that you were surprised about the lack of lather. If it were me, I would want to know.

I agree-- as a vendor myself, I would like to know. If you contact her and start out with the positives-- how good it smelled and how you were attracted to her nice display, then go into the negatives. She should be able to adjust her recipe if she's a good soaper.

You're not contacting her to hurt her feelings, you're contacting her in the interest of helping her. And give constructive feedback.

I would not say "I make soap, and yours is not good" but you could say "I love handmade soap, and I noticed there was not much lather to Bar ABC that I bought on Saturday..."

I would want to be told if there was a problem with one of my soaps. What were the ingredients in this one? Was it labelled?

I agree,
I have lots of customer tell me what they they wanted. and have produced what they wanted in a soap. Its all about customer service and a good product..U need Yo tell her what U expect!

she did list her ingrediance on the back of the lable.It was all good stuff ,same as we all use.It had powdered goats milk ( I use that too ) long shelf life. Maybe she put it in as a powder ( I always mix mine with water first) The lack of suds I was thinking was maybe from too much superfating???
She gave me her buisness card so I can email her. I've just got to figure a gental way to tell her she's got a problem with this soap. You are all right she should know.............thanks to all of you for your advice

Does she know that you make soap? If she doesn't, I wouldn't mention it.

I wrote her a real nice letter this morning. Sadly the email won't go through.I've got a phone number for her, now besides the soap I should tell her that her email is FUBAR too. Maybe I should just leave it alone. Thanks for all who gave me their opinions.
