Teach Soap

I normally lurk here, but I have a question I hope someone can help me with.

I made a larger batch than usual and I realized at the last minute that the container I normally use only for soap would not be big enough, so I used a stainless steel pot from my kitchen. This was part of a nice set and I want to know if I can use it for cooking again after I clean it thoroughly. I would rather buy a cheaper pot for soapmaking.

The biggest problem I have had with eating off soap dishes is the residue left by fragrance oils. Some dishes no matter how well you think you cleaned it, you still get a little taste of FO in the food. I would wash it a few times and give it a try... we don't recommend using the same dishes for eating and soaping, but if it is just this one bowl and you have washed it well multiple times you should be okay.

I would definitely get some separate soaping dishes for future batches, which it sounds like you are planning on doing.

I agree. The scent can linger, even after it's been washed. One time might be ok, but I would get another pot just for soapmaking.

Thanks! If it's just the FO, I will still use it. I was worried about the lye making the pot unusable for food.

I will definitely buy a new container or pot to use before I make a big batch again!

some of the FO's smell almost good enough to eat, now you can! lol
