Teach Soap

I made some salt soap today. Wish me luck getting it out of the mold. I mixed lavander, orange peel, pink grapefruit,and green tea FOs and it smells pretty good actualy. Im keeping my fingers crossed that it comes out ok.

Well just a few hours after I made it it popped right out of the mold sweet as you please. Now I've got to waite for 6 weeks before I can try it. Thats a bummer . Thanks to you all for all the information. By the way what part of the country is salt soap so popular? I've never seen it here.

Good for you Linda! Yes, please post pictures so we can see! Did you like the recipe posted here or did you tweak it some? Or even use a different one? Did you scent them? I am excited for you. As for where are the popular? I have no idea. It is just something I have seen several people discuss on the boards. Maybe someone else knows?

I did tweek the recipe just a little. Cause I didn't have one of the oils called for. I ran it through the online lye calculator.And since this was really an expermant I used paprica for color. To see how that would work. It worked out good cause I used citrus FOs. If I could figure out how to post pictures on this forum Id give it a try.

That should help you figure it out.

Be careful with paprika. Used in larger amounts it can be scratchy. You could always infuse it into one of your soapmaking oils, strain it, then use that. It does make a pretty color though.

I unmolded the soap this morning ( I used guest soap molds so I could hand them out to my folks to have their feedback) The color is not what I was hopeing for but I was afraid of useing too much paprica. They are really nothing special to look at. I think maybe I'll just stick to BBs soap colorings for now. My dog soap however is going to look pretty cool I think. When it is ready to sell I'll try to remember to put up some pics. Thank you all again for your help.

Glad you took it easy on the paprika... it can also be irritating to sensitive areas...
