Teach Soap

Hi All-

So, i made CP soap for the first time yesterday. I unmolded it and it looks like a bar of soap, nothing out of the ordinary, but.... i tested the PH and it is still very alkaline around 13.

Does anyone know if it will neutralize as it cures or should i scrap it and go back to the drawing board

Soap's PH starts out pretty high. What was your recipe? How hot/warm did you soap? Did you let it gel?
Did you test for zap? You can wet your finger, touch that finger to your soap, then touch it to your tongue. If it zaps, it will feel like touching your tongue to a 9 volt battery.

You need to soap a little bit warmer. I gauge the temp by touching the pot with my hands. If it's warm but not hot, I'm good to go. Ditto for the lye water.

Here is your recipe breakdown:

Castor Oil 42.5 5.00%
Coconut Oil 255 29.98%
Olive Oil 298 35.04%
Shea Butter 255 29.98%
Total Weight 850.5

For that size batch, you would need 213 to 319 milliliters of liquid.
For a 5% superfat, you would need 119.18gm. of lye.

You have a lot of shea butter in there. I would lower it and add the difference to your olive oil.
Your soap does not need to go through gel to become good soap. Ungelled soaps just take longer to completely saponify. Give it a day or 2, then check again.

Forgot to add; Bitter Almond eo 16g sounds like a lot. I hope that your almond does not have prussic acid.
