Teach Soap

Hi Hobnell,

I have found that the stovetop method never did work for me. I do my rebatch/milled soap in the microwave.

First thing that I do is add my liquid to the shredded soap, mix it up and let it sit to soften. Then I put the bowl into the microwave for 10 minutes at 30% power, checking it often. I only stir every 5 minutes. I do this until the soap looks like this:



At this point it is pourable and I put it into molds.

For me the trick is keeping the power down and being patient because it will come. Another thing you can do is once the soap is at this very creamy stage to use your mixmaster and whip it. This gives you a beautiful creamy soap that again can be poured into molds.

With both of these methods you have a very short window to pour into your molds - make sure you tap the molds on the counter to get rid of bubbles.

Mine looked like that, I thought maybey I had done something wrong, there is so much to learn.

You're welcome...... when I'm rebatching I prefer to use log molds just because of the small window of workability. I really like whipping the soap because of the creamy look and feel of the soap, plus it floats!!!

Have fun and don't be afraid to experiment - it's how I learned my microwave method - each of us finds what works best for us.

Yes, you are right -( as usual )- but "hand milled" is usually the same as rebatch, right?

Hand-milled and rebatch are the same thing.
