I just made a salt bar batch @ 11:15 pm it was finished. It is now 1:41 am and I tested the soap and it zapped. Is this because I tasted it too soon after I made the batch? Also, the loaf is very soft, so I can't even cut it. I had seen on two different web sites that spoke of making cp salt bars and both said do not insulate and that you have to cut the batch after 1 - 2 hours or it would be too hard to cut. It's been 2 1/2 hours and I still can't cut it. Did I do something wrong? Here is my recipe that I ran through lye calc.
52 grams of lye
130 grams of water
65 grams of olive oil
30 grams of mango butter
235 grams of coconut oil

When can I cut it before it gets too be too hard and why did it zap?

You have about 7-8% superfat. If it's cold where you are, it's possible that the soap didn't gel. If it didn't gel, that's why you're getting the zap. I would leave it be for another 12 hours and see if it still zaps then.

Thank you soapbuddy. What if it still zaps then? Should I not have superfatted? Would the soap have gelled even though the internet said to try to cut it after 2 hours or it would be too hard to cut? I also saw on the internet that that amount of oil should equal the amount of oils, is that true? Should it just have been the coco and the olive? I would really like to save this batch if possible.

Thanks Bama. I see now that everyone's recipe is different! I never even knew that you could put the salt batch in the oven!

My salt bar gelled all by itself. I had to cut it while it was still hot, but I live in the desert. I used the same amount of salt as there were oils.

You have to superfat. You don't want your soap lye heavy. Leave it be for now. If it still zaps, then something went wrong. Is you scale accurate?

Sonya Her eis the Recipe and tutorial I use. It is a 20 superfat. I have never had a problem with it being superfatted that much.
