Hi all -
I played around a little bit with some heavy creams, soy milks and coconut milks in some soaps this fall. I tried different %s between 100% of liquids and 50% of liquids when dissolving the lye. The soaps smelled a little (unpleasantly) milky to my nose when I poured, but after a few weeks, the smell was really nice and I didn't notice the milk smell any more.
However, when I smelled some of the soaps still on my shelves last weekend, especially the one using 100% cream, the soap smelled pretty sour. I used probably 5% lye discount on each of these soaps.
Has anyone noticed this smell in their soaps? Might I have burned the milk when I was mixing it with the lye (the mixture did turn a bit orange, depending on the milks and percentages when I was making the soap)? Did I use too high % of milk in my recipes? Or maybe am I just over-sensitive to that milk smell?
Any thoughts you all might have would be awesome!
