Gather your ingredients:
1.6 oz Avocado Oil
1.28 oz Rice Bran Oil
1.28 oz BTMS-50
0.96 oz Liquid Glycerin
0.64 oz Stearic Acid
0.64 oz Oat Extract
0.16 oz Buckthorn Extract
3.2 oz Aloe Vera Liquid
21.6 oz Distilled Water
0.64 oz DL Panthenol
0.32 oz Optiphen
2.5 mL Jasmine Grandiflorum Absolute
2.5 mL Sandalwood Essential Oil
EQUIPMENT PREP: Disinfect your utensils by dipping them in a 5% bleach water solution and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, your stick blender, and any spoons or spatulas that may come in contact with your lotion. Your products must be absolutely 100% free of germs, bacteria, microbes or anything so be safe and bleach water all your utensils.
FRAGRANCE PREP: Mix the Jasmine Grandiflorum Absolute, Sandalwood and Lavender 40/42 Essential Oils to create the Kissably Soft Scent Blend. If you’d rather a more economical option for fragrancing your lotion, try 8 mL Jasmine Dreams Fragrance Oil, 4 mL Sensuous Sandalwood Fragrance Oil, and 2 mL Lavender Fragrance Oil.
ONE: In a heat-safe container, combine the Avocado Oil, Rice Bran Oil, BTMS-50, Liquid Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Oat Extract, and Buckthorn Extract. Heat in the microwave on 30 second bursts, stirring between bursts, until the BTMS-50 and Stearic Acid have completely melted.
TWO: In a second, larger heat safe container, mix the Aloe Vera Liquid and Distilled Water. Heat in the microwave until warm. Mix in the water-soluble DL-Panthenol and stir until fully dissolved.
THREE: Ensure that both the oil and the water phase are above 140 degrees. Pour the oils into the water, pouring over the shaft of the stick blender to reduce bubbles. Stir the mixture, with the stick blender off, for a few rotations. With the head of the stick blender fully immersed in the liquid, turn on the stick blender and pulse until a steady emulsion is reached.
FOUR: Check your temperature of the mixture to ensure that the mixture is below 176 degrees. Optiphen loses its efficacy at temperatures above 176. Add the Optiphen and the Kissably Soft Essential Oil Blend (or the economical fragrance oil blend). Pulse the stick blender until well incorporated.
FIVE: Pour the lotion into the bottles while still warm. Allow to sit overnight without tops so that the lotion can fully cool without creating condensation. Screw on the pump tops and enjoy!
